A hairstylist explains exactly how much shampoo to use — whether you have short hair, medium-length hair or long hair.

41 how much shampoo

It’s always tempting to squeeze a big dollop of shampoo into your hand when washing your hair, but the truth is that most of us use way (way!) more than we actually need to. According to stylist and all-around hair guru Cleve McMillan, here’s how much shampoo to use: A 20p-sized squirt for short hair; a 10p-sized squirt for medium-length; and two 10p-sized squirts for long hair.

Cleve adds that if it’s been more than two days since you last shampooed, you should go through the process twice (shampoo, rinse, repeat) — you’ll know your hair is clean once the shampoo starts to form a lather. The good news is, by knowing how much shampoo to use, not only will you be able to rinse the shampoo out faster, you’ll also save money on shampoo. It’s win-win!
